Trace First, in collaboration with the Beef Cattle Health and Well-being Committee of the Academy of Veterinary Consultants, has developed an XML schema that allows mapping of test result data in individual laboratories’ information systems to standard elements for messaging. A minimal amount of epidemiological data in addition to the laboratory result is also drawn from the laboratory information system. This message schema is used by members of the committee to develop a report showing what diagnostic labs are seeing in recent bovine cases and to report abnormalities relevant to AVC members and bovine veterinarians. The schema available here will assist laboratories in extracting the necessary data to be sent to the AVC committee.
